Interstellar- Movie Review

Interstellar movie review.

Awhile ago  I went to Ottawa and saw Interstellar, the story was amazing , it's the type of movie that you would definitely need to watch again to really understand what was going on in some parts,
Matthew McConaughey
was able to covey so much emotion as well as Matt Damon , his character Dr.Mann was like the character Gregory in kissed by an angel first he seems like he really wants to help out out but then he goes off his rocker and tries (unsuccessfully to kill you). While watching the movie Damon's performance I definitely got angry when he tried to kill Matthew McConaughey's character Cooper in one of the scenes.
Towards the end it started to get a little fluffy and turn into the movie inception I can't say I really liked that part but it did make the movie interesting and hard to understand but needless to say I really enjoyed it and I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves space, dystopia related movies or shows as well as people who like Anne Hathaway, Matt Dameon and Matthew McConaughey.

Gas guzzlers and Corner Junkies- Corner Gas The Movie Review.

The theater was packed when I went to go see the movie last
Friday night!.

10 years ago a Canadian TV show called Corner Gas ended its last season. No one knew if the show was going to return ever again but their faithful fan's never stopped believing that the cast would return. During the summer the shows creator Brent Butt released information about the possible return of the cast but not in a show form but in a movie format. The movie was going to be hopefully created by a kickstarter campaign. Many fans of the popular TV show including my English teacher was one of the backers!. Later on it was announced that the movie will be made!.

Last Friday night I went and saw the Corner Gas Movie.  Basically the movie is about Dog River and the fact that they are flat broke thanks to Fitzy. When the residences of Dog River find out that they are flat broke they forge a plan to raise money and remake Dog River and keep it thriving. But as usual the cast gets into some funny situations especially Oscar and Karen. Throughout the movie I was laughing but at one point probably because of something one of the characters said or did i ended up laughing so hard that I ended up stomping my foot on the ground ( I think that is a great sign that a movie is good and very funny if someone ends up stomping their foot on the ground due to laughter).

While watching the movie I couldn't but help and think of the TV show. All the actors were able to channel who they used to play on the show perfectly especially Oscar (Eric Petersen). Oscar has always been my favourite not just because he always says a certain word but because his character has such a cute and funny personality. When ever Oscar has a scene and he laughs I cannot help but burst into giggles because I find his laugh so cute!.  There were so many parts in the movie which I loved but my favourite part was the ending where Brent and Lacey kiss. When that happened I was in shock! because when the show was on I would always wish they would get together at one point or at least admit their feelings for each other!. I guess I shipped them even before the word shipped was used to describe two people who I would think should get together.

In my last blog post I talked about how this show did not have a fandom name but that has changed since watching the movie that has changed because the creator Brent Butt basically made two possible fandom names for the show. The names would be Gas Guzzlers or Corner Junkies. I think Gas Guzzlers sounds a lot cooler than Corner Junkies.

In conclusion this movie was worth seeing because we finally got to see the cast again as well as the funny things that happen to them as well as the  moment where Bracy ( Brent and Lacey ) finally kiss    even if it was not for the first time as well as  Emma's reaction it was amazing because in that moment she described a shipper's reaction to when their ship finally gets together!. If you missed out on seeing the movie in theatres be sure to check out CTV on December 17th 2014 because they will be showing the movie then but I do not know what time!.

It's Been A Gas

Corner Gas

Corner Gas is a Canadian comedy show that follows a fictioanl town called Dog River in Saskatchewan ,Canada. The series follows the town's residances and the comediac situations that arise in their lives. The show started in 2004 and ended in 2009, each season ended up turing out great in relation to how mamy people tuned in to it when it first premired back in 2004, since starting; the show has had a large following. Even though the show was very popular and still is popualar today there is not really a fandom assosiated with the show because the term fandom is still relativly new, I believe at some point that the show will hit a fandom terms. This show has to be one of my favourites because the characters are really funny and can make a bad day become good by just watching one episode or 10, also they have had a few famous canadians apperar on the show like PM Stephen Harper and candian singer Micheal Bublè which makes this show even more cooler because not many shows get their PM to guest star on the show. Besides the fact that there have been famous Canadians; this show was well done and you wouldn't even know that it was made in Canada in terms of the quality, normally you can tell if a show is American or Canadian by the acting and quailty of the actors and the shooting format. The thing I liked best about this show was that the characters didn't seem like they were acting and they were all pretty believable. Hank, Wanda and Oscar are my three favourtite characters because they interact really well and funny things always happen to them. Corner Gas gas had many entertaing episodes some of them would include; Buzz Driver , Get the F off my lawn , TV Free Dog River and many more. Even though this show doesn't have an official fandom name it does have a huge following which is still amazing. I would recommend this show to anyone who likes to have a good laugh.

Mockingjay movie review.

Calling all tributes and mockingjays!.
This week in honour of Mockingjay coming out last week on friday I will be sharing  my review of MockingJay part one with you!.

Last week on opening night I went with a group of friends to see Mockingjay part one, before it even came out I would see trailers on the TV and each time i would get chills and I have to say part one defiently gave me chills throughout the movie!. Jennifer Lawrense who plays our heroine Katniss Everdeen was amazing, she was able convay Katniss's PTSD perfectly as well as her current state of mind. In the movie we were able to see how the games affected Katniess as well as loosing Peeta to the captial. We were able to see her deep love for her sister Prim, her love for her best friend Gale as well as Finnick and her mother. As the movie progressed we were able to see the other distacts uprising againest the captial and the captials reaction. Thoughout the movie I was always on the edge of my seat and I even shed a few tears. The movie stayed true to the book and even allowed us to see things that weren't in the book like Peeta, Joanna and Annie's rescue which was amazing!. I was really impressed with the animations as well as the use of the green screen. What impressed me the most was Jennifer's acting as well as Cinna's mockingjay suit for Katniss. The mockingjay suit was just like I had imagined it when I first read MockingJay.
In the end Mockingjay was amazing and I wish I could see it over and over because I just loved it so much!. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes Divergent, The Maze Runner, Delirum, City Of Bones.
"Fire is catching! And if we burn, you burn with us"- MockingJay

The Girl on fire grew her wings.

In

honour of mockingjay part one coming out this Friday I will be doing a review of the book. This book belongs to the hunger games fandom. This fandom revolves around Katniss Everdeen a 16 year old girl who volunteeres to take her sister Prim's place in the 74th Hunger Games. In the last two books Katniss along with Peeta are forced to go to the arena and compete  with the other tributes from the twelve districts that make up Panam. People who are fans of this fandom refer to themsevles as tributes or rebels. I am a part of this Fandom even though I am not a active member. Honestly when i first read this series I had no idea what i was getting myself into i would talk about the book to my friends and even strangers because i loved it so much and i still do.

In the book Mockingjay Katniss along with Finnick and Beetee are recused from the arena in the book Catching Fire and are adjusting to their new lives in the newly but secretly found distract 13. Katniss is getting use to her new but unwanted role as their mockingjay and also dealing with PTSD from the past two games,Peeta becoming hijacked by the capital and rising feelings for her best friend Gale.

I can't lie i have read this book more than once and each time I have read this book i have fallen more in love with some of the charcters like Finnick, Peeta , Katniss, Annie and Haymitch. When I first read this book i have to say I whipped through it because i just had to find out what would happen to our beloved Mockingjay. While reading it for the first time it kept me on my toes and it made me feel 3 emotions that would include anger, sadness and happiness it also made me want to throw the book at one point because it made me angry and that was the best part, I find that i enjoy books better if they make me either want to dance from happiness or throw it on the floor and this book did both.

When reading it for the second time i started to realize that the theme of the books was related to the holocast because people are killed every year because of a rebellion that happend many years ago and during the holocast jews were sentacted to death or to work where they eventually died and this happend in the books even though it wasn't to the same degree as the holocast was. Presidant Snow was basically created to repersent Hitler and the things he had done. So in conclusion i really enjoyed reading mockingjay even though i found the ending just fizzeld out.

Run boy run. The Maze Runner- Book review

The Maze Runner

Have you ever wondered what songs would fit the book?. Check out this link. The Maze Runner book playlist

Throughout the book I kept comparing it to the movie because I saw it first (normally read the book before I see the movie) but in this case I didn't. I have to say I wish I had read it before seeing the movie. The book kept me on my toes because there were changes I didn't see coming. I found that I couldn't put the book down when I first started it which I loved , the book was exciting and I really enjoyed the dialogue between the characters especially the hints that Thomas and Theresa were more than friends before arriving to the glade. I can't wait to read the scorch trials!. Fans of this
Series refer to themselves as Gladers or Runners. They understand the language the characters use in the books. The book uses words like shank, crank, newbie , greenie to describe various actions or people. I think this fandom is really cool because you don't really hear that type of language these days and it's fun to interact with people who you find out are invloved in that fandom as well as freak out over the casting choices for the movie as well as the things that the director changed in the movie or left out. Overall I think The Maze Runner was really good and people who did not like it should try reading it again.
I would definitely recommend this book to someone who has read Enders Game,The Hunger Games trilogy ,Divergent, Cinder and Delirum.

Movie to book differences of The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Maze Runner movie to book Comparison

I
n this review I will be comparing the movie the Maze Runner to the book by James Dashner.

Brief Summery
When Thomas wakes up in a moving metal box with no memory of who he is he's immediately scared and tries to find a way out of the box. When reaching the destination the box opens and Thomas finds himself surrounded by groups of boys aged 13-20 who have no memories of who they were before arriving. The boys call themselves the gladers and that where they are is called the Glade and that there is a maze and only the runners can go in. The glade is a circular area with 3 ways of leaving; the first way is dying the second way is choosing to go off the cliff or lastly going into the ever-changing maze and possibly finding a way out as long as you don't get killed first by the grievers. Grievers are bug like creatures that sting people who cross their path, if stung the victim begins to go crazy but also recover some memories of their past life before arriving in the Glade.  As Thomas spends more time with the boys his curiosity spikes more and more and finds himself asking more and more questions each day and only getting a few answers in return. A day after Thomas's arrival a girl arrives with a note that reads, " This is the last one ever". The gladers immediately blame Thomas because since his arrival things have changed, the grievers are coming out during the day and other Gladers are becoming more curious by the day. Will Thomas and his fellow gladers find a way out of the maze? Or will they stay in the glade?

Normally when a book to movie adaption is made into a movie I always try and read the book before the movie comes to theaters because in most cases the movie will leave out or change parts in movie that were in the book originally. In this case I saw the movie before I read the book. Currently I am reading the book and since starting the book I have noticed that when the movie was created and finalized they made a few changes in the following points, these are some of the many changes I have noticed since starting the book.
  •  Gally was never said to be stung in the movie, but in the book he had been.

  •    Teresa was only able to communicate with Thomas by telepathy, in the movie Teresa communicates orally.

  • Theresa brought two vials with her to the Gladers in the movie but not the book, in the book the Gladers already had the serum

  • In the book the Gladers had modern day technology like microwaves and stoves. In the movie they did not have those things instead the box delivered things the boys needed

  •  In the book there was the main house but not in the movie

  • Gally never got mad at Minho in the movie but in the book he flipped putt at him.
In the movie Gally flipped out at Thomas.

  • Frypan was a supporting character in the book but in the movie he was not seen.

  • Gally doesn't surrender to a

Griver in the movie but does in the book
  •  In the movie there is no cliff also the exit from the maze is a small rectangle but in the movie is a huge circular hole that is in one the mazes walls.

  • In the movie Alby is taken by a Griver when they first attacked but not willingly but in the book he sacrifices his life for his friends the third or fourth time the Grievers attacked

Conclusion.

Since getting to the halfway mark in the book the movie has pretty much stayed true to the book with only a few changes, some large and some small, in the end I wish I had read the book before seeing the movie, but in-fact the movie did say true to book but only mostly for the first half of the book, I really liked Dashner’s idea for the book as well as his characters and the dialogue he used. It was refreshing to read a author who uses contractions as well as words you often don't hear like the word shank used to describe a person instead of a limb. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, Divergent by Veronica Roth, I Am Number Four Series by Pitticus Lore as well as Percy Jackson and the Olympian’s series. People whoike the books by James Dashner refer to themselves as Gladers, runners or shanks. Those words are used in the fandom to describe people who like the books , and fans of the books will understand references e.g calling someone else a shank or asking if you are Glader, as well as asking if you have been stung by a Griver (acting crazy).

One Rocky Road

This week I will be reviewing the show Once Upon A Time and its current season which features Elsa and Anna from the movie Frozen. If you are not familiar with the show please direct your full attention to the following paragraph that briefly recaps season one, please direct your attention to the heading Season 1. . Since the show started in 2011 there has been a huge following of fans who refer to themselves as "Oncers". The oncer fandom comes from the title of the show's title but they just add an S. The Once Upon A Time fandom is huge and they have created "ships" a.k.a people who they think will or should get together, "Ships" can also be formed with existing couples. Currently in season 4 there are 4 ships and they would be Snowing (Snow White and Prince Charming), Captain Swan (Captain Hook and Emma Swan), Rumbelle (Rumpelstiltskin and Belle) and lastly OutlawQueen (Regina (the evil queen) and Robin Hood). Captain Swan has been "shipped" since seasons 2-3 when Emma and Hook first met in the enchanted forest.
Season 1
On her 28th birthday a women named Emma Swan receives a unexpected guest outside her door claiming to her son she had given up for adoption 10 year ago, with a fairy tale book in hand her son tells her of a town in Maine called Storybrooke that is occupied with characters from his book and that she is the child of Prince Charming and Snow White and also the only person who could break the curse that had been cast on the town and the people in it.
Fast forward 3 seasons that involved new characters, unexpected trips to Neverland, new relationships and death we have arrived at our destination season 4 of Once Upon A Time episode 3

Since the show started in 2011, this season has been my favourite so far because of 5 main reason the first reason is that there were so many Frozen (2013 film) references in the show from quotes to characters. In the show they captured Elsa and Anna's personalities perfectly as well as their costumes. The episode Rocky Road is my favorite so far because in this episode Emma, Hook, David (prince charming) and Elsa go on the hunt for the Snow Queen who has framed Elsa for cursing Maid Marian (Robin Hoods) wife, during the flashbacks you get a closer look at Elsa and Kristoffs relationship that has developed since
(! SPOILER ALERT!) Anna and Kristoff have become engaged, during the flash back it was revealed that Hans and his brothers planned to start a war with Arendalle but Elsa and Kristoff go on a mission to stop them before they can attack her kingdom, While heading to the camp where Hans and his brothers are there is a reference to when Kristoff and Anna (in the movie) use the rope to climb down the mountain where Elsa had built her ice castle. My favourite part of the flashback was when Kristoff said the following quote "She's going to be fine. I've seen Anna fight wolves and snow monsters and that idiot from the South Isles." The second reason I loved this episode was because Hans was finally frozen not by Elsa but the Snow Queen! when that happened I have to say I did a little happy dance inside. The third reason why I loved this episode was because while Hook and Elsa were on the hunt for the Snow Queen we were finally able to see Hook use modern day technology and were able to laugh at how he only knew how to call Emma ... Kind of like how my grandma can only figure out how to call my dads cellphone when she's trying to call me. The fourth reason why I loved this episode was because we're were able to see The Knave of Hearts make his way into Storybrooke and see who he is and his backstory, it was cool being able to see how the creators Adam and Eddy bring him over because fans would know him as the Knave of Hearts from Once Upon A Time In Wonderland and not just Will. The finale reason why I loved this episode was because of Regina she chose to be selfless and save Robin’s wife's Marian from the curse by removing her heart before the ice curse could freeze it. Don't get me wrong I loved all the CaptainSwan moments  (Emma and Hook) as well as when Emma saved Hook from being killed but this episode really showed how much Regina cares for Robin and wanting him to be happy even if it means he would chose to be with Marian, and it shows how selfless she has become since the show started in 2011.

Struck

"> Check out the playlist.

                                     Struck by Jennifer Bosworth

Whenever I go to chapters I take a stroll  past the bargain books, sometimes I find my next favourite author next favourite series. This time I went and saw the book Struck by Jennifer Bosworth, when it came out and I read the synopsis I was immediately hooked and wanted to buy it but by the time I was unable to go to a chapters, then  I had long forgotten about buying it, but that day I saw it on the bargain books shelf I picked it up forgetting that I had wanted to read it, as I was reading the inside cover I was hooked and proceeded to go to the cash to buy it.

Set in post apocalyptic Los Angeles, Mia Price is a lightning addict and she has survived each time she has been struck but with each strike she becomes more addicted to the power of storms and crave their energy to become connected with them once again. But lurking in the cracks of a broken up L.A there is a power struggle between the prophet and his followers and the seekers who are lead by Mia's Highschool teacher. Little does Mia know about her destiny and why she’s attracted to lightning storms and also the underground war that is happening between the Prophet and his followers and the Seekers? Each side wants Mia but will she choose whom she settles her loyalties with or will she go her own way and chose her love for her family over the fate of L.A?

When I first started reading Struck I found Mia to be really annoying when she described what she did daily but as I got deeper into the book I understand why her day was so detailed. Each time I turned the page I started reading faster and before I knew it was hallway through the book. Currently I am still reading it and I love how L.A is described because it had been destroyed by a very powerful earthquake, when we talk about L.A in todays time we see it has a city that is filled with bright lights and huge buildings and beautiful buildings but in the book L.A has been destroyed, many of the towers and roads have been broken do to the shifting of the earths plates. At 9:07 tonight I finished Struck, As I passed the halfway point which lead me to finishing it I found the religion  aspect of the book to become more dominate towards the end which I didn't like because I wanted to find out what would happen to the main character Mia and her final decision but after finishing it I found that the religion did play a key role in helping Mia realize her destiny and save L.A. In the end I think Struck was very well placed, the characters were very believable because there are things we want to hide from the people around us and different religions and beliefs surround us all the time and also the fate of the world, I was also shocked to find out that Jeremy was the Prophets son but I kind of had a feeling that he was but was not sure but when I did read that part I was defiantly shocked! In this book Jennifer Bosworth has made me realize that no matter what we try to do we can't hide from our true natures and our true selves without becoming lost in a lie, at one point in Struck the prophet brainwashed Mia and taking away her scars  (that she had gotten each time she had been struck by lightning) and having her believe that she has her mother back and that she has the perfect life, but all of that was a lie she is then woken up from the dream from and the help from her now boyfriend Jeremy and also her old self the one that had been buried when the prophet had brainwashed her. In other words if you want to read a book with a strong female lead read this book because this main character doesn't need to rely on anyone to come out on top and also changes her fate.
